Exclusive Interview with Righteous
Interviewed By Jordan Chiarulli

Only at Boy George Fever will you find Boy George Fever's Jordan Chairulli  at his best with this exclusive interview with one of Toronto's most popular DJs. Righteous. They are know as Dwayne Minard & Gavin Bradley. Their sounds are an uplifting mix of chunky, funky & vocal house with a strong nod to the glamorous days of Studio 54.

Dwayne's booty shaking UK influenced style has been a staple at  Lub Lounge on Friday nights for the past two years. This sound has also landed him some high profile gigs in London at Salvation and The End.

By March of  2005 Dwayne & his production partner Gavin Bradley (known together as Righteous) saw the release of their first single Soul Clapping' on Refund Tr ax in the UK . Their much sought after, unreleased remix of Nelly Furtado's single Try has been in regular rotation on Chum FM since the beginning of 2005. They are currently back on the DJ charts with their house remix to Culture Club's Unknown Pleasures. It's taking the US by storm. Their also  in the studio working on their follow up single for Refund Tr ax.  Here is the exclusive interview I did with them on October 28th 2005. Enjoy !

Jordan: Why did you decide to pick Cultures Club's Victims?

Gavin Bradley: I was in a bar with a friend  and heard the original version after not having heard it for a very long time. I was struck with what a great song it was, so the idea was running around in my mind to do something with it at some point.

Dwayne Minard:  We had the basis of an original track we were working on and we weren't happy with the vocal idea we had been pursuing . Gavin realized that our track was perfect for "Victims and the next time I came down into the studio Gavin played it over top of what he had already. Then we finally went through a process of changing the speed and restructuring the track around the "Victims: sample.

Jordan: I see.

Jordan:  Did the two of you ever think that Unknown Pleasures would be so massive in the clubs?

Dwayne Minard:  Actually the crowd went nuts the first time I tested it in a club! I was in shock. Before that we didn't know how other people would react to it.

Jordan:  When I first heard Guido play this at Shampoo in Philadelphia I went crazy even the crowd went crazy, I asked him who mixed it. He said "Oh Righteous" I said,  "I got to find this track!". That's when I asked him for your email address. And now look I'm interviewing the two of you!

Jordan: Does Righteous plan to do any other Culture Club tracks? A few fans were requesting you maybe mixing Culture Club's I'll  Tumble 4 Ya?

Gavin Bradley: It's not out of the question but we like to mix our production up and keep people guessing. You never know what vocal you might hear over one of our tracks.

Jordan: Has any of the members from Culture Club heard any of your remixes?

Dwayne Bradley: Not to our knowledge, but Boy George's DJ manager should be receiving a copy of"Unknown Pleasures" shortly.

Jordan:  Who is the guy in the background of Unknown Pleasures?  He's humming allot! Could this be one of you?

Gavin Bradley:  That's me...doing my best Spandau Ballet impression!

Jordan:  It seems to fit quite well with the track actually

Jordan:  What are your future plans and projects for 2006?

Dwayne Minard : I'll be furthering my DJing career, spinning in Toronto and western Canada as well as London. We've also had a trial running spinning as a duo and of course more tracks.

Gavin Bradley: We've done a track called "Love Is Love"  not by Culture Club with MJ White from New York...getting that out in the UK is a priority. I've got a solo album coming out, as a singer-songwriter, and I did a vocal on a new Righteous track called 'In The Way'.

Jordan: Sounds like you have a great year planned ahead. Just re-mix some more Culture Club. LOL...Please......

Jordan; Do you plan to release Unknown Pleasures on White 12' promo?

Dwayne Minard : Actually no, we did a limited edition CDR run for DJ promo use only.

Jordan:  I wanted to thank the two of you for taking the time out of your busy DJ schedule to do this interview with me. It means allot to us Boy George & Culture Club fans. This is Jordan Chairulli reporting for Boy George Fever. The website that goes beyond the remixes.
