TOUR 1991-1995
(BOY GEORGE CONCERT TOUR)
Even before the release of "The Martyr Mantras" in 1991, George began a series of "mini-tours" that featured several unreleased songs. These tours took him all across Europe many times, to South America (for the first time in his career), The United States, Russia, and other countries. No exact set list was ever established, and most of the set was made up of still unreleased material. Although the tour technically didn't last four years, most of the shows from each short tour followed a similar format of a selection of "Martyr Mantras" songs performed to backing tapes followed by the new (and very little old) material usually performed acoustically. In early 1993, the set became comprised of all-live material, and the "Martyr Mantras" singles were spread throughout the set list. The first of these shows was the Terrence Higgins Trust benefit, in November, 1990 and the first all-live show was at Noisy Champs in Paris, 1993. The 1991 autumn tour of the United States was the longest leg of this tour and took George through familiar cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as otherwise unvisited cities like Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Detroit. George has been known to refer to this tour as "The American Disaster Tour", as many of the crowds were unreceptive to the lack of Culture Club material and many of the clubs were not set up for a proper live show with a full band. A New Year's Eve, 1994 concert in New York City, and a show at the London Apollo a few weeks earlier, were particularly satisfying for George and fans alike. Fueled by the success of "The Crying Game" and the "At Worst, the Best Of" album (which had just gone gold in the states), George performed a nice balance of old and new, including "Move Away" performed live for the fist time ever before an audience.
A rough set list \ song pool: (Keep in mind this set changed almost every night over a four year period, and is usually between 10 and 15 songs long.)
