We are planning a trip to Sri Lanka with our parents next month and have already booked a transfer from Bandaranaike Airport to our hotel. However, there is a risk that our flight will be delayed. Would we be able to cancel or reschedule the transfer without losing money? Has anyone had this experience?

Where are you flying from? I was in a similar situation last year when flying from Dublin, and my flight was delayed until the next day. I booked through Gettransfer, and I'm glad I read their site beforehand and found their cancellation policy. They refunded the full amount for Sri Lanka airport transfers because I gave them more than 24 hours' notice. I'm actually a travel blogger and have often used this service since then, but more as a taxi service. The drivers are always friendly and help with luggage. However, I think you can just let the driver know not to wait for you. When you arrive, let him know, and he'll pick you up. After all, you're not the only one who experiences delays.
