Udyog Aadhar was a government initiative aimed at making the registration process easier for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across India. Introduced by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, it allowed entrepreneurs to register their businesses through a simple and completely online system.

The registration required basic details about the business along with the owner’s Aadhaar number. After completing the process, the enterprise received a unique Udyog Aadhar Number (UAN), which served as official proof of MSME registration.

With Udyog Aadhaar, small business owners could access various government schemes, financial assistance, subsidies, and easier loan approvals from banks and financial institutions. It also helped businesses gain credibility and participate in government tenders and development programs.

In 2020, the system was replaced by Udyam Registration, which further improved the MSME registration process by integrating more digital verification and updated classification criteria.

Udyog Aadhaar played a significant role in promoting entrepreneurship and helping millions of small enterprises become part of India’s formal business ecosystem.
