I’ve been looking into different leather types lately, and top grain leather keeps coming up quite often. From what I’ve gathered, it’s considered high quality, though a bit different from full-grain leather. Since the surface is treated, it has a smoother and more refined appearance, which gives it a cleaner, more polished look.
I’m mainly wondering if top grain leather is worth investing in for things like jackets or bags. It’s often described as durable and more resistant to wear than lower-grade leather, but I’m not sure how well it ages over time. Some people say full-grain leather develops a nicer patina, while others seem to prefer the consistent finish of top grain.
If anyone here has used top grain leather items, I’d really like to hear your experience. How does it perform with regular use, and would you choose it over other leather types?
