The crown jewel of the LSU roster. The top two receivers grade out at 93 and 91 overall respectively. The WR1 is a complete package: 95 speed, 92 catching, 90 route running. **Defensive Line (91 OVR)**
LSU defensive line is built on speed and disruption rather than pure power. The edge rushers are 90 and 88 overall with elite first-step quickness. The defensive tackles are gap-shooting penetrators who can blow up plays in the backfield but can be vulnerable to power running games that double-team them.
**Linebackers (88 OVR)**
An athletic group that excels in space. The weakside linebacker has 91 speed—essentially a safety playing linebacker—and can cover running backs and tight ends man-to-man. The middle linebacker is a traditional thumper who cleans up whatever the defensive line does not.
**Secondary (91 OVR)**
LSU calls itself DBU for a reason. The starting cornerbacks are both 90-plus overall with elite man coverage skills. The free safety is an 89 overall ball hawk with 93 zone coverage. LSU runs more Cover 1 and Cover 0 than any defense in the country because the secondary can handle the responsibility of man coverage with no help.
## Offensive Scheme
### Base Formation: Gun Trips
Three receivers, one tight end, one running back. LSU spreads the field and dares you to cover all three receivers one-on-one. With the receiving talent on this roster, that is a losing proposition for most defenses. The trips formation creates natural rub routes and isolates the single receiver on the back side.
### Money Play: Verticals Y-Cross from Trips
Four vertical routes—three from the trips side, one from the single receiver side. The inside trips receiver runs a crossing route at 15 yards. Against man coverage, the crossing route is almost always open because the defender has to navigate through traffic. Against zone, the vertical routes stretch the coverage vertically, opening up space underneath for the tight end or running back checkdown.
### Red Zone: Empty Spread
Five receivers, no backs. LSU spreads the defense across the entire width of the end zone. Fade routes to the boundary with the 93 overall receiver are almost automatic one-on-one touchdowns. The quarterback draw from empty is an effective constraint play when the defense sells out against the pass.
## Defensive Scheme
### Base Formation: 4-2-5
