Residents should save the address on their phone before winter arrives rather than trying to find it after their battery is nearly depleted. DTE also provides an automated telephone system at 800-477-4747 for reporting outages and obtaining restoration information.



DTE's outage map is more useful when combined with notifications. Customers can sign up for text or email alerts so they do not have to repeatedly open a website during a storm. If mobile service becomes unreliable, having a battery-powered radio provides another way to receive broader weather and emergency information.



Do not assume that seeing power on in a neighboring block means your home should immediately be restored. Electrical circuits can serve areas several miles apart, and individual homes may have separate equipment problems. If DTE reports that power has been restored but your home remains dark, report the problem again through the outage system.



How Long Do Power Outages Usually Last?



There is no single restoration time that accurately predicts what an Ann Arbor household will experience during a winter storm. DTE reported that 2025 was its most reliable year in nearly two decades and said the time customers spent without power fell substantially compared with 2024. At the same time, severe weather can still produce outages that are much longer than normal daily reliability statistics.
